UPDATE: We are going to have a re-do of this sometime during the summer! Or winter(?) for you southern hemisphere Opponauts. I’ll try to repost it then as much as possible without being annoying, and I’ll mention it in my username.
The moment we’ve all (not) been waiting for! The number of responses topped out a bit over 200, so I decided to close the form and post the results. But then I forgot about it for a while.
Basically, if this whole thing could be summed up in a short sentence, it’s that I messed up a lot of the answers.
So I have a question:
Should we have a do-over with proper, serious, better answers?
That’s in big bold text because a lot of people didn’t read the instructions/notes for the survey and got mad at me in the text submission.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Anyway, here are the answers!
There was a total of 231 responses to the survey.
For the “other” answers that allowed you to type in your own answer, unfortunately I cannot see these answers without individually looking through each and every single survey submission. That would take forever.
What is your gender?
99.1%/229 people responded as male.
0.9%/2 people responded as female. Yup. Just 2.
How old are you?
30.3%/70 people are ages 18-25, making this the biggest group.
25.1%/58 people are ages 25-30.
15.2%/35 people are ages 30-35.
10.8%/25 people are ages 14-18.
10%/23 people are ages 35-40.
3.5%/8 people are ages 40-45.
2.2%/5 people are ages 45-50.
0.9%/2 people are 50+.
And 2.2%/5 people chose not to respond.
Where do you live?
92.2%/213 people live in North America.
5.6%/13 people live in Europe.
0.4%/1 person lives in Asia, another person in Eurasia (yes, I know this is a very vague term), and another person in Oceania.
0.9%/2 people chose other.
If in the US, where?
29.8%/56 people said they live in the Midwest.
25%/47 people live in the Northeast.
13.8%/26 people live in the Western US, again a very vague answer, I apologize.
12.8%/24 people live in the Southeast.
12.2%/23 people live in the Southwest.
3.7%/7 people live in NJ.
2.7%/5 live in FL.
Do you watch/follow any motorsports?
Do you watch any of the following?
The answers here from top to bottom are: No, /DRIVE, Fifth Gear, History/Discovery/etc car shows, old new Top Gear, old new Top Gear spin-offs, and YouTube channels relating to cars.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
49.4%/114 people have been on Oppo for 1-3 years.
22.5%/52 people have been on Oppo for 3-5 years.
10.4%/24 people have been on Oppo for 5+ years.
9.5%/22 people have been on Oppo for 6-12 months.
3.5%/8 people have been on Oppo for 3-6 months, and another 8 are Oppo O.G’s.
1.3%/3 people have been on Oppo for < 3 months.
How much do you like/dislike Oppo?
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Pick one. (Some random popular posts from the sidebar.)
19%/44 people chose the Mazda Miata.
18.6%/43 people chose Hammerhead’s Toyota Land Cruiser post.
14.3%/33 people voted for Steve Lehto’s posts.
13.4%/31 people chose BLLLAAACCCKBIIIRRRDDD.
12.1%/28 people chose the cheap LS engine swap guide.
8.7%/20 people chose our lord and savior BLACKBIRD.
Another 20 people chose Two Wheels Good posts.
4.8%/11 people chose “a figurative bird that is black.”
4.3%/10 people chose the “turbo” tattoo post.
Two Wheels ___?
44.2%/102 people think the two wheels life is good.
42.9%/99 people think otherwise.
13%/30 people have no opinion.
Do you ride a bicycle?
55.8%/129 people do ride a bicycle.
44.2%/102 people do not.
I suppose I could’ve put a “Sometimes” answer or something like that here.
Do you have a driver’s license?
90.9%/210 people do have a driver’s license.
4.8%/11 people have a permit/are currently learning/other.
4.3%/10 do not have a license or permit at all.
How often do you drive/ride?
85.3%/197 people chose every day/nearly every day.
8.2%/19 people chose randomly/whenever they need to.
1.7%/4 people chose weekends only.
1.3%/3 people chose rarely.
3.5%/8 people do not own a vehicle.
Do you take public transportation?
51.1%/118 people do not take public transportation. Somebody submitted that this section could’ve been improved, and that the “NO!” made it sound like they didn’t take it because they disliked public transportation, rather than because of a poor system, which was the actual reason behind their choice. These are very good points and another thing that can be improved next time.
39%/90 people take it randomly/whenever they need to.
10%/23 people do take public transportation.
How many vehicles have you ever owned in your entire life?
42%/97 people have owned 6+ vehicles. Somebody laughed that the choices stopped at 6. Yes I should’ve gone higher, sorry. I guess the car-less side of me was showing there.
13.9%/32 people have owned 1 vehicle.
12.1%/28 people have owned 3 vehicles.
10.4%/24 people have owned 2 vehicles.
9.5%/22 people have owned 4 vehicles.
6.9%/16 people have owned 5 vehicles.
5.2%/12 people have never owned a vehicle.
How many vehicles do you currently own?
34.2%/79 people currently own 1 vehicle.
28.1%/65 people currently own 2 vehicles.
13.9%/32 people currently own 3 vehicles.
8.7%/20 people currently own 4 vehicles.
4.8%/11 people currently own 6+ vehicles.
3.5%/8 people currently own 5 vehicles.
6.9%/16 people do not currently own any vehicles.
What manufacturers are they from?
For some reason, most manufacturer names here which were selected by users didn’t show up. Instead, a lot of manufacturer names nobody selected showed up, like Daewoo. So I added the selected ones back and put them in green so they’re easier to see. NOTE: The green text doesn’t mean those are the only ones with submissions! There are submissions in black text as well.
I’d love to see what people put in the Other answers, but as mentioned earlier, I would have to go through all 231 submissions to find these 12 answers. So if you selected Other and want to tell us in the comments, go right ahead!
What time period are they from?
What colors are they?
What body-styles are they?
What types of engines do they have?
Someone pointed out it was a dumb move of me to lump the flat-engine cars with the non-flat ones. This is another very good point, sorry.
Also, I’m preeetty sure I know who chose W16 engine. When the amount of responses was in the single digits, I looked through the submitted forms and saw that form with the W16 choice was full of shitpost worthy answers. AHEM.
Edit: Sorry, I went through the first couple submissions. The person I’m thinking of put V12, not W16. But still, we’d like to know who here has/had a W16!
What are they powered by?
Are they two-strokes or four-strokes?
Do any of them have forced induction?
What is the engine displacement?
Where is the engine located?
What transmission types do they have?
Interestingly, automatic was beating manual maybe half the times I monitored this part.
Where is the shifter located?
What drivetrains do they have?
If 4WD, do you have diff lockers?
79.1%/102 people do not have 4WD vehicles with diff locks.
20.9%/27 people have 4WD vehicles with diff locks.
This isn’t accurate though because if you look at the previous question, 57 people said they have 4WD cars. The total submissions for this question equals 129.
Do any of your vehicles require a physical key?
Do any of your vehicles have an actual hand/emergency/parking brake?
Do any of your vehicles have an auto-start/stop function?
Do any of your vehicles have an automatic brake-hold function?
Some people were upset that the Yes choice said “Yes, but I don’t use it” and said the only reason they use it is because of hills or they’re not great with manuals. That is perfectly fine, I really meant people who hate driving and using it on flat ground. Next time I won’t do that.
Do any of your vehicles have an AC/radio/etc with physical buttons?
Which side is the steering wheel on?
What side is the fuel cap/plug-in port located?
Do your vehicles’ interiors pipe in engine/exhaust noise?
How many exhaust tips do your vehicles have?
Which sides are the exhausts on?
This may have been messed up as well. I meant for left/right sides to be on the actual side of the car, not on the sides of the back of the car.
Do any of your vehicles have manual windows?
Someone said there should have been a “no windows” option.
How many seats does your vehicle have?
How do you measure the air in your tires?
61%/141 people use analog tire pressure gauges.
19.9%/46 people use digital tire pressure gauges..
15.2%/35 people needed a reminder to check their pressures!
3.9%/9 people do not have a vehicle.
When at home, where do you park your vehicles?
How much do your vehicles weigh?
What is the current mileage/kilometerage(?) on your current vehicles?
Somebody pointed out it was another dumb move of me to say “no conversion necessary.” This is absolutely right, sorry.
Which of these Official Cars of Oppo© do you own/have you owned? (List not complete)
This part got a whole bunch of people upset in the text submission. Originally, I wasn’t even sure if I should’ve included this part. I started it with the basic answers (E30, Miata, etc), and then it grew to what it is now, which still left out a lot of cars I somehow forgot about (Crown Vic, for example).
And a lot of people genuinely think I can’t spell Camaro, Dodge, or Ford. There, I spelled them correctly.
Is there anything you want to tell me? (These are just a few.)
Technically, you did tell me something. :P
I haven’t heard that one in a while. Fuck yours too!
Wouldn’t you rather identify as a Blackbird?
Ummm...
Canyonerooo
Are we gonna have to go on the Maury show?
I’ll give you my friend’s contact info. He’s a Nigerian prince.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So there you have it. A bunch of juicy useless statistics that are probably 50% accurate. As they said on old new Top Gear, ambitious but rubbish!
After all this scrolling and reading, I’ll repeat the question down here:
Should we have a do-over with proper, serious, better answers?
Maybe we could think of this as a “beta test.” The questions and answers could be improved for next time. What do you think?

Erm. I don’t think we’ve gotta go 50 categories like Facebook. But maybe just “male, female, trans male, trans female, gender fluid”? Maybe add “cis” in front of male and female, though I can see some of our olds being like “wtf is cis-male?!” and getting pissy. I dunno. I’m cis-female, so I don’t think I necessarily have the voice needed to speak on this issue.

There are more than that. Currently active (that I know of) are: me, Yama, (someone I’m not sure I’m at liberty to name), Stef, $kay, shamoon, smobgirl, Mercedes, MitsubiShe, Vagina High Priestess, and (someone else I’m not sure I’m at liberty to name). I can think of several more who haven’t been active for at least a year.
But yes, overwhelmingly, Oppo is male. About 99 percent male. And of the women who are no longer here or who, even if listed above, are less frequent visitors, I know that many of them are far less present because it’s hard to be a woman on this forum. It’s gotten better, though, so there’s that.

Automatic brake hold only works on hills, that’s what it’s there for.
Also, it is the best if you ever need to start up a huge hill. just because something is automatic doesn’t mean it is bad.

I support this! I’d loooove to see more gender inclusions. I’d make it like this:
Male
Female
Trans* Female
Trans* Male
Intersex
Non-Binary
(I don’t think adding cis is necessary in this case, since it’s just a census)
Interestingly enough, I’d likely still pick “female”. Reason being because I identify (as with many/most trans women) as a woman. What makes me a trans woman is the description that I started life as male. It’s an adjective to describe my gender, but it isn’t my actual gender label. So even though I’m very publicly trans, I will only identify my gender as “trans woman” when it comes to LBGTQ+ subjects and dating. Outside of that, I’m a woman, full stop.
But that said, I DO LOVE including everyone, so that’s why I’d really love including more gender descriptions. :)

Yeah. But it makes sense for a lot of situations. Drive throughs, long stop lights, train crossings, or even if you dropped something or need to reach somewhere in your car you can do that much more easily with your foot off the brake. Or even just faster starts at stop lights because all you have to do press the throttle rather than release the brake, move your foot then press the throttle. Definitely not a necessity by any stretch of the imagination, but a fantastic convenience/luxury feature.
